Spanish in fashion

We’re pretty lucky, us Spanish speakers. We speak a language which is spreading like wildfire, and have a culture which stands out for its richness and diversity.

The Spanish speaking community is increasing continually; however, the number of Chinese and English speakers is slowly decreasing, according to the most recent research into public opinion. Our community is made up of almost 500 million, of which 82% are native speakers. According to data published by Ethnologue, Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world, with Mandarin Chinese taking the top spot.

We’re a big community: Spanish is the official language, or the most commonly spoken language (in those countries without an official language) in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Guinea Ecuatorial, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.

In addition, more and more International Organizations are introducing Spanish as a co-official language: the UN, the African Union, the European Union, the Organization of American States, Mercosur, Europol, Interpol, FIFA…and many more.

We also have a promising future: in three generations, 10% of the world’s population will speak Spanish; in 2050, the USA will be have the largest number of Spanish-speakers with more than 140 million Castilian-speakers; Spanish is the third most used language on the Internet, and rising…

Can you afford to not know Spanish? Don’t let the future pass you by without doing something about it! Studying Spanish in Spain or Latin America is an investment in the future…your future.
